This idea has been mooted in New Zealand but there’s no suggestion it’s actually happening.
But according to a Reddit thread this week, it is in fact nailed down. Um, what?
As you’ll have no doubt see, Google’s new “AI Overviews” now sit at the very top of some search results, often appearing before any news outlet, official website or verified source.
Designed to give users quick answers, the summaries aim to keep people on Google, even though Google wouldn’t exist without other peope’s content to index and provide search answers to.
